2015 Ford Troller T4 vs 2004 Ford Bronco Review

Ford cancelled the production of Bronco a decade ago, after they introduced the 2004 Ford Bronco Concept model. In 2007, the American automaker acquired the Brazilian automotive company Troller and redesigned their popular off-road vehicle, the T4. The new 2015 Ford Troller T4 is quite similar to the Bronco Concept shown back in 2004, but it is also somewhat based on the TR-X Concept shown at the 2012 Sao Paulo Auto Show. Some people might notice that it even shares design cues with Toyota FJ Cruiser and Jeep Wrangler.

The SUV has been redesigned to be more modern and stronger. All exterior elements, such as the new headlights, LED taillights, revised grille, muscular bumper with front guard, running boards, the so called sky-roof, tailgate-mounted spare wheel, roof-mounted spoiler, wide fenders, and a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels, are contributing to its muscular design.
The 2004 Bronco Concept is more squared and boxy. It has a flat front fascia with simple front grille, front guard, halogen round headlights, and additional smaller fog lights. The tailgate with integrated LED taillights swings open to the side for easier access to the luggage area. There are two removable sections on the roof, which can come in handy, you can use the rear portion to attach the roll bar. The SUV rides on a set of 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The spare tire can be found inside.

The 2004 Ford Bronco Concept is a two-seater model, with enough head and leg space for both passengers. It has a seats wrapped in a imitation of natural leather, probably some kind of gray-colored suede. Although a decade old concept, its dashboard and center console feature a bunch of modern technologies. There is a color display and many buttons, AM/FM radio, climate control, cup holders, etc, while the instrument cluster comes with a standard speedometer and odometer with integrated compass. This compass will sure com in handy, given that this is primarily an off-road vehicle.
Dashboard and center console of the 2015 Ford Troller T4 are mostly made of grey and dark plastic. The whole dashboard, including the steering wheel are similar to those found in the Ford Ranger. Nothing spectacular has been added inside, there is an FM/AM radio, three air vents above it, several rotary knobs below, simple steering wheel, instrument cluster with analog gauges, and glove compartment. Seats are wrapped in dark-toned leather. The good thing is that the interior can easily be cleaned, because the automaker have used high-resistant materials.

Engine and Performance

Now, let’s say something about powering options. The 2004 Ford Bronco Concept is powered by a turbodiesel 2.0L inline-4 engine delivering 128 horsepower and 244 pound-feet of torque. However, when needed, for a limited time, the unit is able to produce boosted 258 lb-ft of twist under full throttle. This can come in handy, for example, when you find yourself stuck in mud. Engine is paired with a PowerShift six-speed manual transmission.
On the other hand, the automaker wanted to offer even more power with the new 2015 Ford Troller T4, and that’s a good thing. This model is reportedly powered by a 3.2-liter Powerstroke I-5 engine producing 197 horses and 347 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox which transfers all the power to both the front and rear axle. There is also a rumor that a 3.2L turbodiesel engine will be offered, generating 185 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of twist.

Release Date

There is no word if the new Ford Bronco will ever be built. Many rumors circle around the web, claiming that the 2015 or 2016 models are in the works, but like I said, those are just rumors. So, if you want to replace your old Bronco, you should consider buying the 2015 Ford Troller T4. The only problem is that it will be offered for the domestic market (Brazil) only, at least for now. There are no details if it will ever go on sale in the United States, Europe, or other international markets. If the SUV ever gets released in other markets, it would become a main competitor for the Jeep Wrangler.
