BMW has unveiled the mid-life LCI facelift for their entire 6 Series
all at once today, down to the high performance M6 versions. The
luxurious 6 Series range consists of a coupe, a convertible and a sexy
four-door GranCoupe.
Engine variants are the same as the pre-facelift model – you’ll pick
from a 640i, a 650i, and a 640d. What’s new are the availability of
‘lines’ – the Design Pure Experience and Design Pure Excellence lines
that were introduced with the new BMW X5. They’re basically just
different bits of trim.
Exterior-wise, the changes are pretty subtle – the press release goes
to lengths to describe how the kidney grille bar count have been
reduced by one, and the exhaust tail pipe diameter has been increased
from 80 mm to 90 mm.
The good news is LED headlamps are now standard. There’s also a new
20 inch alloy wheel design and new colours – atoba metallic, Cashmere
Silver metallic, Glacier Silver metallic, Mediterranean Blue metallic
and Melbourne Red metallic.
The 6 Series never really looked outdated in the first place, so it’s
understandable that BMW took a similiar approach to its facelift that
it took with the F10 5 Series.
This is especially so with the 6 Series GranCoupe, which I personally
think is the best ‘niche car’ that BMW has rolled out in the recent
years, combining super sexy looks with the kind of plush ride that would
properly an owner who is used to a 7-Series.
